Pakistan Army is a branch of Pakistan Armed Forces, which is responsible for the defense, protection and security of our country. The Pak Army defends the country against external aggregation or the threat of war to ensure the national unity of the country. The Pak Army is one of the most influential institutions in the country, not only in terms of defense but also in national affairs. The Pak Army announces a PMA (Pakistan Military Academy) long course program. PMA long course is a course in which male candidates apply and if selected, they can join the Pak Army as a second lieutenant. Further promotion is available from officer level upwards. This program is announced twice a year. The Pak Army announces many programs in which you can apply for a Captain or even a Major based on graduation. The candidates who will apply must be between 17 to 22 years old. And the age should be calculated as of November 1, 2025. Candidates below 17 years and above 22 years of age cannot apply.
Your marital status should be unmarried. However, married serving personnel of the Armed Forces over 20 years of age are eligible.
Only male candidates can apply. Female candidates are not eligible for PMA long course.
The minimum height of the candidates that are willing to apply should be 5.4 inches which is equal to 162.5 cm. The weight should be according to your body mass index. Your body mass index can be easily found on Google.
Registration for the PMA long course program started on March 25, 2025 and the last date to apply is June 1, 2025.
The preliminary test will be conducted from May 9, 2025 to July 4, 2025.
The candidates can apply on the base of their intermediate. In this case, their age should be between 17 and 22 years as of November 1, 2025. Relaxation can be given for up to three months in the upper and lower age limits. For the candidates who have completed their two-year graduation and those who are serving personnel of the Pakistan Army/Pakistan Navy, have an age limit between 17 and 23 years. Relaxation can be given for up to three months in the upper and lower age limits. The age limit for the candidates who have completed their four-year graduation should be between 17 and 24 years. No age relaxation is given for those candidates. Whoever, the age limit for serving army soldiers should be between 17 and 25 years.
The candidates should get a minimum of 55% in FA/FSC or equivalent examination. The candidates who secure 60% marks in graduation can apply even if they have 50% marks in intermediate. Serving army soldiers who secured 50% or above marks in FA/FSc or equivalent examination are eligible for the post. Candidates who have been promoted to the second year can apply through the Hope Certificate on the basis of their first-year marks, in such case the minimum marks should be 55 percent in the first year and the Hope Certificate should be prepared by the Principal of the college. As soon as your second-year result is announced, you have to submit your result card to the Army Selection Center within a week. A-level candidates with a minimum of 55 marks are also eligible and they will also have to prepare an equivalency certificate from IBCC.
Candidates can register only through internet in PMA Long Course 156. The procedures which will be adopted are describe below.
Registration through internet & note for some candidates:
In PMA Long Course 156 the candidate must first register himself online using internet. Only online registration is acceptable. To register yourself, you will have to visit their website www.joinpakarmy.gov.pk. After completing the registration, you will be provided with an exam slip within 5 to 7 working days. And on this exam slip, you will be provided with complete information about your test. In which you are told what time and date you have to be there for the exam. And the candidate is required to carry the original documents with him during the exam and the list of these documents will be provided in this article. The candidate’s exam is taken on a computer, so it is important for the candidate to be able to operate a computer well enough to be able to take their test easily. The TCC candidates who apply for PMA Long Course will be considered as repeater candidates and this kind of candidates must report at concerned Army selection and Recruitment Centres from 9 may 2025 to 23 may 2025.
The selection procedure of PMA Long Course is module base selection which is done by ISSB. First of all, in your preliminary selection, written, intelligence and writing of English and Urdu easy are taken and science base syllabus is not included. And for intelligence, you can buy any verbal and non-verbal guides to prepare intelligence test. Your medical exam, physical test is conducted there. The interview of candidates is selection based which is headed by Selection and recruitment Officer.
In the physical test, the candidate has to meet some minimum criteria, in which he has to run up 1.6 km in 8 min, the candidate has to do push-ups 15 repetitions within 2 minutes and 20 repetitions of crunches within 2 minutes, 3 repetitions of pull ups within 2 minutes and ditch crossing 7.4 into 7.4 and 4 deep. After doing this, the candidate can qualify. The physical test has specific marks for each part and the candidate has to achieve them. Any candidate can withdraw from the exam without completing it. The candidate must pass this sub-part of the physical test to be qualified for the next procedure. After clearing the medical physical test, the candidate will be interviewed by a S&Ros and psychologist. Before the interview, the candidate will be given a 10-line English and Urdu test and the topic of essay will be provided in the examination hall. Each candidate will be given marks out of 20 and minimum 12 marks will be considered and the candidate with less than 12 marks will not be shortlisted for ISSB selection. All candidates who successfully pass the initial test will have to submit an online ISSP application on the course registration website, in which they will provide their complete bio-data. After submitting the digital form, the candidate has to download the Declaration and Character Certificates and get it verify by any gazetted Officer or concerned Principal. The form will be submitted in 5 working days at the respective AS&RC. After completing the preliminary test, the candidate will be issued a form “D” which he will submit along with his character certificate.
Army Selection and Recruitment Centres fill the marks of all candidate in module which they obtain from physical test & interview marks. After which some candidates will be qualified for ISSB selection and will have to give the ISSP test. After the test, the candidates will undergo a complete medical test at any of the nearest Combined Military Hospitals. And at last, the selection of the candidates will be made by the General Headquarters based on their overall performance. Training period at Pakistan military Academy is 2 years after candidate’s selection.
